Alternative Approach To Photographing Botanicals

with April Milani

The wonder of botanicals is all around us. They grow and bloom in neverending forms of life. From the moss forming on a rock, to the morning glory saying hello to the rising sun. We can also see the magic of the wilting flower as its color fades, to the vine drying as it curls and hardens. These are just a couple of the glorious creations that you will see as you take a walk or stroll through your day…

My addition to this, I will help you gather and create art that pushes your boundaries and imagination. We will submerge, paint, dry, and sprinkle life back into the dead wilted, to fresh aromatic flowers. Be ready to build layers in camera and your scanner. Editing your images will only bring your vision into the next realm of creativity. I will show you how to do this in Lightroom and Photoshop. Even if you don’t edit your images, learning how it is done will only inspire you to do these techniques without software. And yes, I will guide you on how this is done.

This workshop will require you to play, make a bit of a mess and have fun! You will need some type of camera. If you choose to go deeper down the rabbit hole a scanner will be needed. Start grabbing your paints, inks, and fabrics, just to name a few.

April is a retired military wife and homeschooling mom of two wild boys. April is not afraid to go out and try something new, even if she fails. She’s still won because she didn’t let fear stop her. April is human; she makes mistakes; she is perfectly imperfect; she is saved by grace. Her saying this year is, “don’t feed the fears.”
