The Experimental Portrait

with April Milani

Is your creativity screaming to get out? Does it pull and twist at you? Or does the fear of failure stop you from trying something new? Is taking the perfect portrait no longer inspiring?

It is my hope that this workshop will help you to push past the uncertainty of the unknown. I am going to give you all the tools I use to never let anything stop me. I may not always know what I am doing and how it is going to turn out. That is ok. The joy comes when you push through and create something you never thought possible. It’s time to celebrate the beauty of the imperfect.

Capturing memories of children requires a delicate touch. Most kids know how they want to be photographed, and you'd be wise to let them show you. I’m going to show you how to do just this! Regardless of their age or circumstance, it is up to us to meet all children where they are. All children have stories to share that can set the course for your next photo, you are often exposed to an array of free-form emotion just waiting to be documented. Rather than instructing youth to “say cheese,” it's much more productive to find out what makes them smile or not smile (& that’s ok). This resulting in a memory capsule of a particular moment in time.

Maybe you are ready to use yourself as your muse and discover, “You Beyond The Selfie.”

Whatever the subject, we will find the light, the story in an unconventional way! Classes begin April 1st and runs for 5 weeks. With 5 Zoom meet-ups.

April is a military wife and homeschooling mom of two wild boys. April is not afraid to go out and try something new, even if she fails. She’s still won because she didn’t let fear stop her. April is human; she makes mistakes; she is perfectly imperfect; she is saved by grace. Her saying this year is, “don’t feed the fears.”
